Lantern Marine Veteran by DavidSondered Lantern Marine Veteran by DavidSondered
This is for a commission.
Lantern Marines are Dark Angels successors, Monastic but with a Tiki/Polynesian native origin that shows in their armour.
They have Lanterns hanging on their backpacks that can, if nothing else is available, be used as powerweapons.

This was all in the brief (though I shortened it down).

They also have sort of a metal-rock theme going on, which explains some flame-motiefs.

This is one of the most flattering renditions of Ta Moko I have ever seen in popular modern culture. As a Maori/Samoan not only did you convey our historical traditional tattoo respectfully but it is also a creative way of blending across cultures and generations. This work is not only cool but genuinely touching and encouraging to see...he mihi tautoko me aroha nui kia koe me to mahi.

Thank you, I did my best to be both respectful and make it fit within the imaginary universe it was designed for.

I unfortunately do not speak a single word of Maori, so I do not understand your last sentence, nor can I find a translation anywhere.

Thank you.

Loosely translated "Respect and love to you and your work" in Maori

I have seen some rather undignified bastardized images of our Moko but I do respect that art in all of it's forms should be open to interpretation and copying is a form of flattery no matter how offensive the misinterpretation may be. This is one of the most beautiful trans-culteral images of my pacific heritage that I have ever seen and it makes me proud so thank you 1mpact.

PErhaps I should paint some Polynesian Sisters of Battle... the only issue is that I only paint my own Sisters (Ahadi) and they are..well..evil is the best way to describe it. :/
